Mini Dental Implants in Fremont, CA

Mini dental implants provide an effective solution for people who are not fit to undergo the traditional dental implants process. They are small restorations that do not need complete insertion into your jawbone. The process for placing these implants is relatively simple and minimally invasive. Mini implants are designed to be a faster permanent treatment by no longer requiring a bone graft.

What Are Mini Dental Implants?

A mini dental implant is a tiny artificial root that is compatible with your body and smile. They are of smaller dimensions than regular implants, measuring about 1.8 to 3.3mm in diameter and 10 to 15mm in length. Mini dental implants are less expensive and can be used as full-fledged dental implants when the ridge is too narrow. Their smaller dimensions allow them to still be viable despite significant bone loss in the jaw.

Who Are Good Candidates for Mini Dental Implants?

Patients suffering from the following concerns are ideal candidates for a mini-dental implant process:

  • Need a minimal procedure that will not affect other present health concerns
  • Lack sufficient bone beneath their teeth for the successful placement of conventional implants
  • Want permanent teeth restorations as quickly as possible
  • Have unstable dentures

What Is the Procedure for Placing a Mini Dental Implant?

Before inserting the mini implants, we have to first find the optimal locations where we will insert them. We find these places using various diagnostic and planning tools.

A mini dental implant placement procedure takes about one hour. Generally, for the lower jaw, four mini implants will be placed about 5mm apart. The following steps are involved in the mini implant process:

  • Local anesthesia is administered.
  • A minor hole is drilled in the jawbone to insert the individual implants.
  • Each implant is inserted into place and tightened with a winged wrench.
  • Finally, a ratchet wrench is used to stabilize the mini implant.
  • The denture markings are made to secure the implants.
  • The denture is sent over to the lab to have holes drilled to accommodate the implants.

How Long Do Mini Dental Implants Last?

Mini dental implants last as long as traditional implants in the right patient. With good oral hygiene practices and maintenance, mini dental implants can last the lifespan of the patient.
