Oral Hygiene 101

Posted .

You may get caught up in the business or even the laziness of the summer, but it’s just as important to keep up your oral hygiene during the summer as it is the rest of the year. Dr. Christopher Louie and our dental team in Fremont, California, want to make sure you are keeping up on your dental care so follow some of these tips to help you have a healthy and bright smile.

Brushing is obviously the front runner for removing plaque and food particles from your teeth. Keep this rule in mind when brushing your teeth: Brush for 2 minutes, 2 times a day. Try and brush within a half hour after eating to have better chance of removing food and decreasing the time for bacteria to grow. Be sure to brush all around the teeth, and the roof and tongue of your mouth.

Flossing is another useful tool to get in those hard-to-reach cracks and crannies between teeth to remove plaque and particles. Use it at least once a day to get rid of buildup. Use mouth rinse to get rid of buildup in the corners of your mouth. Always look for the seal of approval from the American Dental Association (ADA) to make sure you’re getting tested products (toothpastes, mouth rinses, etc.).
